A sense of urgency. This is message 408 and day 62 in the 8-C Challenge to the memory of W Clement Stone.
There are two types of people in the world. Those who do and those who don’t. Often those who don’t, say they will, just not now. They are also known as procrastinators.
Those who do may not do it perfectly, but it has been said, “Anything worth doing is worth doing poorly.” At least they got started.
It is better to have a sense of urgency than no sense at all. John Maxwell tells the story of hearing the late W Clement Stone at the University of Dayton in 1974. Stone was born in 1902 and started the Combined Registry Company. It was sold shortly after Stone’s death in 2002 for over 2 1/2 billion dollars.
During Stone’s talk Maxwell heard him give a simple challenge for developing a sense of urgency. Stones said to tell yourself the phrase “Do it now” 50 times before going to bed and 50 times in the morning. Maxwell says he did this for 6 months.
Just try it once. See if it at least give you a sense of urgency. Why don’t we do it together right now.
Do it now!
