A Posture of Saying Yes

What was the last thing you said yes to? There is an ethos that is prevailing where it is cool, better, wiser to say no to people, opportunity, things. It gives the appearance of balance in one’s life. But what is being passed up?

Granted, in this land of opportunity, one can’t say yes to everything and everyone. But what if the default setting was yes? What if there was, at least, openness to the opportunity? Of course this would mean more work. Of course this would mean a busier schedule. But it would also mean doing more. And, in turn, possibly mean being more.

I was at breakfast this morning with a friend. He owns a manufacturing business. He talked about the joy of giving people the opportunity to be creative and produce something. He said people have to be pushed sometimes into making something happen. Opportunity can be presented, but it has to be seized. Without a posture of saying yes, many opportunities presented are missed opportunities.

Before saying no to the next person, opportunity, or thing that comes your way, consider saying yes.
