Feelings #662

Don’t let your feelings get in the way. There’s a story behind that. This is your daily message from Chad number 662, to upgrade your mental game today by telling yourself a better story because the most important story you hear is the story you tell yourself. This message is dedicated to the commitment queen, Terrie Wurzbacher.

John Kenneth Galbraith is one of most respected economists of all time. He spent more than 50 years as a professor at Harvard University. He wrote 48 books. He wrote over 1000 essays and reports and research for journals, and he was an absolute superstar. He is no longer with us. He was regarded for how accessible his writing was in a field that is often wonky. One day late in his life, a journalist interviewed him about writing. He asked, “What did you learn from your career in writing?” He said, “I learned something very interesting, that the quality of the writing I do on the days I don’t feel like it is just as good as the quality of writing I do on the days I do feel like it.”

Did you catch that? Just because you don’t feel like it doesn’t mean you won’t do it well. “The quality of the writing I do on the days I don’t feel like it is just as good as the quality of writing I do on the days I do feel like it.” Don’t let your feelings keep you from getting it done. When commitment is greater than your feelings, you’ll get the results you want. Most things in life simply take discipline. Don’t wait to feel motivated. Motivation is a myth. Feelings will fool you. Have you experienced in your life that you can get the work done just as well whether you felt like doing the work or not? Many things will try to keep you from doing what needs to get done. Don’t let your feelings be one of them.
