Make this quality your superpower. This is your daily message from Chad number 639 and this message is dedicated to Jay Papasan.
I am more and more convinced that consistency is the one quality that can become your superpower. I’ve mentioned before the old Prudential commercial about the big display of dominoes. They called it the “Retirement Challenge”. In 2014, the display broke a world record for the largest domino toppled in a chain, started by a regular-size domino.
This is based on the work of a physicist Lorne Whitehead in 1983. The phenomenon is known as force amplification. Whitehead figured out a single domino can topple another domino 50 percent bigger.
It is an example of how small steps can lead to big results. I would submit, all benefits in life are a result of force amplification. Success is successive. It is about good things that add up over time.
- money
- relationships
- learning
- character
Significant achievement in any one of these areas, is the result of patient, sequential, incremental chain reactions. You can’t get there by cramming for it, like a school test. Short-term thinking ruins everything, every time.
Stick with it. Stay in it. Keep at it. The benefits from every area of life come as a result of consistent compounding. Is the domino you are pushing against today part of a longer chain that leads to something bigger you want to see happen in the future?
