The Sign #386

Everyone is wearing this invisible sign around the neck. This is message 386 and day 40 in the 8-C Challenge and this message is dedicated to Grandma Jean Garrison who is celebrating her 98th birthday today.

Everyone is wearing this invisible sign around the neck. Do you want to know what it says? You are wearing one right now. The next person you see has it on too.

You know Mary Kay, the makeup company? She was a real woman, Mary Kay Ash, and started the company back in 1963. She was 45 years old. When she passed in 2001 Mary Kay Cosmetics had a sales force of 800,000 women. Mary Kay said, “It’s so simple, yet makes such a difference. Pretend that every single person you meet has a sign around his or her neck that says, ‘Make me feel important.’”

I got this from Dale Carnegie if I remember correctly. I have on my dashboard a sticker that says “You are about to meet the most important person in the world.” Before I meet a homeowner I am reminded of that. Now, is this really the most important person in the world? Yes! In their world they are and their problems are the biggest in their world.

Dr William James said, “The greatest principle in all of psychology is the craving to be appreciated.” If you want to change the dynamic between you and another person remember the sign around their neck. Remember they are the most important person in THEIR world. Remember they just want to feel appreciated.
