Root Before Fruit

“But since he has no root, he lasts only a short time….” -Jesus (Matthew 13:21)

Fruit gets a lot of attention, but it all starts at the root.

I’ve said whenever there is trouble coming up with a metaphor, a tree can be used.

It can be cliche. It has all the fundamental elements, though, that applies so many life experiences.

Jesus liked to use it.

If you ask a person to draw a tree, 9 out of 10 times, people will not draw the roots.

Roots are easy to forget.

They are out of sight.

They are not used.

Even after a tree is chopped down, the roots are ignored.

Any fruitfulness or fruitlessness has a root cause.

Jesus talked about roots in his story about the sower.

He knew without roots, there is no lasting fruit.

If you had to name the parts of your “root system” what would they be?

I have 10 things that I realized make up my root system.

I created an acronym for it so I could easily bring it to mind.

What anchors you?

What are the invisible things that supply the energy to your more visible activities?
